Universal Lift System
GFC uses a unique pneumatic system—the Universal Lift System—to move large, heavy bookshelves for flooring installation or library re-organization. It uses compressed air and a wheel and rack system to raise the full shelves and move them safely and quietly to a nearby location until the new flooring is installed. The Universal Lift System is even quiet enough to allow the library to remain open during the process.

Project Challenges
The library’s original nine-year-old carpet had been troublesome from the beginning. Carpet seams were
lifting and the administration suspected moisture in the building might be responsible.
After a long delay to investigate the problem and to find the perfect new carpet, in the end they chose a custom
design to match existing imported floor tiles. GFC only had a month to complete the job before the fiscal year-end.
Project Results
The custom carpet was produced and delivered by C&A in a month and GFC installed it in a record time of 10 days.
The library stayed open during the entire process and the client was very happy with the finished space.

This is to express my appreciation for the fine job that your crew did on the re-carpeting project for the Brookhaven College Library. I was extremely impressed by the attention to detail, which included measuring each aisle (all were different distances apart), marking each book case, marking the beginning and ending book on each shelf, mapping out the location of all furniture. All the shelving units were moved and replaced in their proper locations without any damage; books were moved onto book carts and back onto shelves in perfect order. The crew even helped us out by straightening some shelving and bolting units together, above and beyond the job requirements.
